Have you heard of IV therapy before? Five years ago if someone mentioned IVs you probably would have pictured them in a hospital bed. But recently IV therapy has become more mainstream and most people know a friend or family member that has tried it.
Despite its trendy nature - IV nutrient therapy can be an extremely useful health care tool.
Intravenous (IV) nutrient therapy provides your body with a direct infusion of vitamins and other nutrients so that it can function at an optimal level.
Yes, as social media has informed us, IV therapy can be used to improve hangover symptoms. The way it does this is mainly by provided fast hydration. The hydrating effect of IV therapy can be applied to many other conditions as well.
IV therapy provides much higher doses of vitamins and other nutrients than can be achieved with food and oral supplements. This is because the nutrients are infused directly into the bloodstream. The digestive system is bypassed and the concentration of absorbed nutrients is much higher. As a result effects are often felt much quicker.
The nutrients used for IV therapy can be tailored specifically to you; your condition and desired outcome.
Some of the more common conditions that IV therapy can be beneficial for include:
Anxiety & depression
Digestive concerns that reduce proper nutrient absorption
It is also useful for those that forget to take their supplements regularly and those looking to add to their preventative wellness plan.
IV therapy is an invasive procedure and as such should always be done by a licensed healthcare practitioner. At Pro Motion the IV therapy will be done by our highly trained naturopathic doctor. Dr. Emily will take all necessary precautions to ensure your IV treatment is done safely.
Before your first IV you will meet with Dr. Emily to go over your current health concerns and determine if IV therapy is a good fit. She will also review your most recent bloodwork, medications & allergies to ensure IV therapy is a safe treatment for you.
Before your first IV you will need to do an IV initial consultation ($85), unless you are already a patient of Dr. Emily’s. The cost of the IV infusions range from $50-150 depending on the nutrients being used.
The number of IV sessions needed depends on the condition being treated. IVs can also an occasional top-up to boost energy, improve immunity & simply make you feel better.
Book a naturopathic consultation (IV therapy) to assess your health & create IV plan (Note: please bring a copy of your most recent blood work to this appointment)
The day before your IV infusion is scheduled drink plenty of water. Before you come eat a snack or meal and continue to hydrate.
The IVs range in length from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. Bring anything you like to occupy your time (ie. book, headphones, laptop) or take the opportunity to relax.
